MUSEE-COOPERATIVE
COLLECTION CÉRÈS FRANCO
Historian and art critic, curator and gallery owner, Céres Franco has never ceased to collect works from all over the world, united by their creative freedom, their authenticity, their taste for figuration and color.
Throughout her life, she wanted to share her passion with the greatest number of people by donating most of her collection to public institutions, which is now preserved here, in Montolieu, in this museum dedicated to her. This donation occurred in February 2020.
While each year, since the opening in 2015, a temporary exhibition presented one of the many facets of the collection, the choice was made this year, at the time of the donation, to present the entire collection.
The exhibition “Les voleurs de feu” presents all the facets of the collection: anonymous artisans of popular art, naive, self-taught artists of art brut or singular, outsiders, artists of the New Figuration, expressionists, surrealists, and many unclassifiable according to the most usual conventions.
